Miami, FL - Nov 9 - In
the world of beauty pageants there has been an obsession with perfection. Women
who compete in beauty pageants are under constant pressure to have a perfect,
Barbie like physical appearance, and every little detail from the plumpness of
their lips to the definition of the bridge of their nose is noticed during
pageants. Women are increasingly turning to plastic surgery to help refine their appearance in an
attempt to make their physical appearance perfect. Although beauty pageant
contestants may feel that it is necessary to undergo plastic surgery in order
to obtain a certain appearance to appeal to society, is it worth altering their
natural beauty?
The Miss Universe
pageant has been a pageant tradition since the 1950's. Women compete to win the
title using their physical beauty, talents, and ability to charm the audience
and judges. Over the years, more and more contestants from Venezuela have been
scoring the title. Many wonder whether the fact that plastic surgery has become
available since the Miss Universe pageant first began could contribute to more
Venezuelan contestants winning the title. With the new 2013 Miss
Universe winner Maria Gabriela Isler there have been in total 7 contestants from
Venezuela who have won Miss Universe, all of whom have undergone some type of
plastic surgery. With cosmetic surgery becoming increasingly advanced and more
accessible, more and more Venezuelan beauty pageant contestants are going under
the knife. Venezuela has become obsessed with perfection, and women are quickly
becoming more willing to undergo plastic surgery to make sure that they meet
the country's beauty standards. Especially in beauty pageants including the
Miss Universe pageant, Venezuelan women have been known to be to prone to
getting plastic surgery in order to win. Some wonder if it would be possible
for them to win had they not undergone the physical changes.
In general the most
popular cosmetic surgeries most Miss Universe contestant goes under are: Breast
Augmentation, Rhinoplasty, Liposuction, Chin Enhancement and Buttocks Lift.
Some could argue that
Plastic Surgery is not a secret any more but when choosing which contestant to
crown Miss Universe, judges have no idea if a contestant has undergone plastic
surgery unless the contestant admits to it during the process. This means that
a contestant could be showcasing a completely enhanced version of beauty, and
no one would know if she is all natural or has achieved her appearance through
surgery. It brings the question of whether contestants who have received
plastic surgery are cheating by altering their physical appearance. They may
have an advantage to contestants who don't believe in plastic surgery and choose to compete with their natural
appearance and promote natural beauty which could be a bad decision when the
rest of contestants are doing it. However you see it, pageants will continue to
allow contestants to compete with or without cosmetic surgery.
